Pre-calc

I really enjoyed learning trig.  I was enamored with how all the triangles can be represented in the unit circle. I also enjoyed how all the sides and angles are related and able to be found using different type of ratios.  The graphs of these functions also sparked interest because it was the first time I was able to visualize how a sine graph looks and works.  Over-all though, I think it increased my overall understanding of triangles in general.
The piece of work I am most proud of this year would be my composition book.  This is the first year I have been extremely organized with my math work and I would like to blame this change on my composition book.  It has helped me keep track of all of my work and a good place to reference when I am at a loss of what to do.  As a student, I hope to continue this habit into next year.

This has been a very interesting year of math for me.  I have been pushed very hard but personally, I think I have taken these challenges in full stride and put out amazing work.  I am most proud of my project.  I really enjoyed representing something that I learned recently.  We  showed exactly what we were learning and it was easy to read and understand.  As well, I think I really mastered the logarithm equations by doing this project.  Because of this, I think my current understanding of math has greatly increased and I am excited to continue my learning through next year.

MATH STATEMENT

For our project, we decided to represent math concepts that we had recently learned in our last unit.  We studied exponential growth.  This is easily seen in many parts of our society and especially in in banking.  Because of this we decided to represent exponental growth with money.  With this we wanted to represent the different types of growth with the independant variables being number of times compounded, interest and initial amount.

This project was directly related to our current learning.  We had just covered this in class and thought it would be interesting to represent it.  For example, although most people know about interest and the way it works, it is interesting to see the difference between continuous interest and intrest compounded a certain number of times. Our graph has two moving lines that allow the user to directly see the difference.  Further, because these lines grow so quickly, we decided to put log graphs in as well. These log graphs represent the a transformation of the exponential graph but in a logarithmic scale which has the effect of condensing large numbers and expanding small numbers so it is more easily visible.

Although this project does not have a lot of learning on our part, I hope to show our knowledge from this year.  We have been working extremely hard in mathematics this year, and personally I think this gives off our understanding of these concepts.  As well, I would rather have a strong understanding of concepts than pushing myself to far and skimming over important topics.  Beause of this my project shows exactly what I need it to show.
